Upgrading antique furniture for a nursery

Between impatience and excitement, you are slowly but surely preparing for the arrival of your baby. Clothes, bottles, stroller, car seat, crib, wardrobe and accessories… you’re almost ready.

Next step: setting up the baby’s room. You’re lacking inspiration for choosing furniture, decoration, and paint colors for the walls and furniture?

It is essential, before anything else, to ask yourself the following question: “What type of decoration do I want to offer my child?” This may depend on the baby’s gender, whether known to the parents or not. Once you have refined your ideas, use a mood board: a visual summary of your desires to better visualize.

In the following, you will discover what Rosalie Fréchette has done for her future baby’s room.

Now pregnant for over 17 weeks, I thought it was appropriate to start decorating the room for our third child. Thus, I wanted to give a rather rustic style to this room. To do this, I was actively looking for an old wardrobe to refurbish with Colorantic chalk paint, to add charm to this small part of our home.

So, here’s how I proceeded to achieve the long-awaited result!

The stages

Firstly, find the perfect wardrobe for your project. However, if you don’t have it on hand, you can do some research using various search engines, such as Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, or Les Pac to potentially find the perfect piece of furniture at a reasonable price.

Preparation

  1. Perform a light sanding using the Colorantic sanding block. This is intended to lightly scratch the surface to allow the paint to adhere very well.
  2. Afterwards, clean the wardrobe thoroughly with a damp cloth.

The paint

  1. Begin by cutting in around your furniture using your Colorantic 38mm angled brush with natural silk bristles.
  2. Using the serving tray and the velvet foam roller, apply the first coat of Cappuccino paint.
  3. As Colorantic paint dries very quickly, a waiting time of 30 minutes between coats is sufficient. So once the time has passed, you can apply the second coat.
  4. During the waiting period between coats, take the opportunity to paint the handles. To facilitate the application of paint on them, I recommend placing them on a cardboard box on which you have perforated holes to insert the handles.

Now that the paint is thoroughly dry, you can install the handles on the wardrobe.

This was a relatively simple project, but still demanding, given its size. Nevertheless, this wardrobe added the desired charm to the room of our long-awaited third child!

We are fully prepared to welcome him. Also, there is no need to be an expert in painting to carry out this kind of refurbishment. It’s worth noting that Colorantic paint is easy to use and applies beautifully.
