The craze for recycled decorative objects
In a world where over-consumption has become commonplace, recycling is an alternative solution for preserving our environment.
The reuse of second-hand objects takes on its full meaning when combined with decoration.
Transforming salvaged materials into decorative treasures not only reduces waste, but also adds a touch of originality and authenticity to the home.
Recycling has become an important part of my life, and this is also reflected in my interior design.
Recycled decorative objects bring an ethical, unique and ecological dimension to our living space.
So I came up with an original idea to transform my candleholders.
Read on for my story…!
“Almost six years ago, I received a very old chest as a gift.
As soon as it entered the house, it became the new coffee table in our living room.
It blends in perfectly with the décor of our ancestral home.
One day, I walked into a store and fell in love with a set of three silver and glass candlesticks.
They matched perfectly with the living room decor, which at the time was in shades of silver and gold.
As soon as I saw them, I immediately imagined them on my magnificent antique chest.
Over the years, the living room decor has changed somewhat, and the candleholders no longer really fit.
I’ve had an idea in mind for a few months, and I’ve finally put it into practice.
I’ll explain the steps and the products I used for my project.
The products we use
- Colorantic cleaner and varnish remover
- Primer Colorantic oil-based primer
- Colorantic chalk paints: Acai berry and Cotton ball
- Natural beeswax Colorantic
- Oval brushes #10 and XL Colorantic (for painting)
- Colorantic 16 mm round brushes (for wax)
- Sandblasting block 2 Colorantic grains
- Colorantic tangerine scented granular soap
- Paper towels
- Clean white linen (T-shirt style)
Preparation
- Clean using Nail Polish Cleaner and Remover on all surfaces.
Spray on, leave on for a few minutes, then rinse well under the tap with warm water and wipe dry. - Since it’s metal and glass, I strongly recommend applying a coat ofColorantic oil primer to allow the paint to adhere very well.
Allow oil primer to dry thoroughly before proceeding.
The paint
A few tips for paint application
- Apply a coat of Baie d’acaï chalk paint to all surfaces.
For the glass part, the XL brush is ideal for getting the paint into the pattern cavities.
Use oval brush #10 for the base. - Once the paint is dry, use the XL brush to apply a coat of Cotton Ball, tapping to reveal the acai berry color.
- Important note: Dip the tip of the brush lightly into the paint Cotton ball and wipe lightly on a paper towel before tapping the brush onto the candleholder.
The finish
Once the paint is completely dry, it’s time to apply the wax.
Even if it’s natural, wax gives them a spectacular effect.- Using the 16 mm brush, apply Natural Beeswax over the entire surface.
- Lightly wipe off the wax using a clean white cloth.
Now that your project is complete, all you have to do is decorate your candleholders with the greenery of your choice.
Here’s an original decoration that’s sure to make a big impact in the room of your choice.
In conclusion, here are a few varied recycling techniques for an original look
- DISASSEMBLING OBJECTS: this involves giving a new function to an existing object, such as transforming an old suitcase into a coffee table or a ladder into a towel rack.
- REVITALIZING: this technique involves changing the appearance of an object, for example by repainting furniture or decorative objects.
- RECOVERY FROM NATURE: branches, shells and other natural elements can be integrated into the decor to create a zen, uncluttered ambience.
