Painting the Home Entryway
Are you always looking for new ideas to change your home décor?
Well, I certainly am! I am constantly searching for great budget-friendly ideas. Having owned a new house for barely four months, I was already looking for a brilliant way to revamp our small main entryway that I didn’t like at all, it really hadn’t received much love from the previous owners.
I told you I loved changing up décor on a budget… and out of nowhere came an original, super inexpensive idea!
That’s how my project was born. Having a few open containers of Colorantic paint lying around, along with some wainscoting (beadboard) and mouldings, I decided to create a signature Colorantic entryway!
Well yes, why not? Isn’t that a great idea!
Here are the inexpensive budget-friendly steps of my transformation which, by the way, took barely three hours of my time to complete, and of which I’m very proud.
List of products I used:
- Colorantic Night Chalk Paint
- Colorantic Chalk Paint Cotton Ball
- Violet Oval Brush #6 Synthetic Colorantic
- Colorantic Foam Roller Brush
- Colorantic Matte Varnish
- Colorantic Decorative Hooks (5)
- Colorantic Paintbrush Soap
- 4″ decorative mouldings (angle-cut)
- Interior MDF wall panelling (one pack of 6 boards was enough for my 62″ wide wall)
- Nailers
- Finishing nails
Preparing the surface
The first and most important step is removing all decorative elements from the wall and filling all holes. So, I patched the holes and washed the surface to make sure it was squeaky clean.
Once the surface was well cleaned, I removed the baseboard at the bottom of the wall. Next, I measured the width of the wall and cut the six wainscoting boards to the required length.
I hesitated a lot about leaving the baseboard, but in the end, I don’t regret removing it—I feel the wainscoting adds more value when installed all the way down to the floor.
Then, I cut my two mouldings at angles to the exact same length.
The paint
I was finally ready to paint the upper part of the wall! But before jumping into this step, I took care to apply green painter’s tape to protect adjacent walls and the ceiling.
Since black is my favorite color and serves as my accent tone at home, I decided to echo that shade in my entryway. I was very lucky because I had enough Night by Colorantic left over to complete my project that very day. Colorantic chalk paint is a very thick paint that covers extremely well, so two coats were more than enough to cover the white wall.
Once the painting was finished, I gently removed the painter’s tape, and as soon as it was completely dry, I moved on to the next phase.
I installed the six wainscoting boards starting from the floor up. I used a nail gun, but you could also use silicone adhesive.
I also had some leftover paint in Cotton Ball, which I used to paint the wainscoting. I applied two coats of this colour directly onto the wood boards.
Since Colorantic paint contains a light amount of built-in primer, I skipped adding a separate coat of primer before painting.
💡 Note: Colorantic paint dries in less than 30 minutes!

Moulding installation
Now that the paint is finished and the panelling installed, all that remains is to install the decorative mouldings.
I cut the two decorative mouldings to match the width of the wall. I installed one flat on the wall just above the panelling.
Then, to create a shelf effect, I placed the second moulding on top of the first.
In order to make the paint washable, given that this is a place frequented by the whole family, I applied two coats of matt varnish over the whole of my work.
Since we have five children at home, I installed five white hooks purchased from Colorantic.
It was on a rainy summer’s day that my idea to revamp my small entrance was born, and all in just a few hours.
With the addition of a few decorative elements, I have to say I’m pretty happy with the result!
So here’s an ordinary entry that’s become a spectacular one, thanks to Colorantic!
