Preparing Your Workspace

Before starting your project, take the time to properly prepare your workspace. Start by selecting a suitable area that provides enough room to move freely. To avoid unwanted paint splatters, cover your work surface with a drop cloth or a few sheets of newspaper. Trust us, taking the time to properly prepare your workspace will make all the difference to a successful experience.

When it comes to painting with Colorantic chalk-based paint, preparation, which may be the least interesting step, is the number 1 key to success!

Whether you are painting fabric to create a unique piece of furniture, an accessory or just for a fun craft project, it is important to prepare the fabric before starting your work in order to maximize its lifespan.

Once you’ve gathered all the necessary materials and prepared your fabric, it’s time to get started.

Paint Application Stages

1.It is important to remove all dust and stains that could prevent the paint from adhering properly. Use a vacuum cleaner and Colorantic Cleaner and Varnish Remover to clean the fabric. Rinse the fabric well with hot water before continuing your work.

2. Spray the fabric with a generous amount of water. This will open the fibers allowing the paint to penetrate well.

3. Mix well and apply:

    • 1 part paint
    • 1 part translucent glaze
    • 1 part water

Apply three to four coats of the mixture, reducing the quantity of water in each coat, but always maintaining the same quantities of paint and glaze.

4. Sand lightly between each coat and be sure to dust well before continuing.

The Final Step – Wax Application

1. We recommend that you allow the paint to dry thoroughly for 24 hours before moving on to the next step.

2. Once it is dry, you can now start applying the Natural Beeswax.

3. Apply the wax in sections of approximately 2 square feet using our XL and/or 16 mm brushes.

4. Once the wax is applied, make sure to buff well using the paper towels. It is very important to change the paper towel frequently, as it will absorb the wax, making polishing more difficult.

5. When you have finished with the wax, we recommend that you allow the wax to dry for two weeks before using your chair.
