Do you want to repaint melamine furniture, but don’t dare for fear of making a mistake? It’s super simple! However, each step is essential to the success of your project.
If you want to give a second life to a piece of furniture that has sentimental value or even refresh your melamine kitchen cabinets, read on, because we will explain how to do it well. A simple paint can create a most impressive transformation of melamine.
Painting melamine is really not complicated, and to do so you only need four products, which can be found in the Colorantic online store or at a retailer near you.
Products Used
- Colorantic Cleaner and Varnish Remover
- Colorantic Oil-Based Brimer
- Colorantic Chalk Paint: Vintage Cream
- Colorantic Matte Varnish
- Colorantic Velvet Finish Foam Roller
- Colorantic Two-Grain Sanding Block
Prepare the Surface
It is essential to clean the furniture very well before starting the project. We therefore advise you to spray the Cleaner and Varnish Remover on all surfaces and leave it to act for around thirty minutes. Once the time has elapsed, it is important to rinse very well twice using a cloth with hot water, in order to remove all residue.
Since melamine is a very smooth surface, oil primer must be applied so that the color can hold well. To increase the adhesion of the primer to the melamine, it is best to lightly sand the surface to scratch it.
Then, we apply a coat of oil primer and that’s it!
To Paint Melamine
You are now ready to apply the colour to your furniture, in this case it is Vintage Cream tnhat has been chosen.
Since Colorantic paint has excellent coverage and depending on the shade, a single coat may be sufficient. On the other hand, if you see that there are places where the colour is still showing through, do not hesitate to apply a second coat.
For large surfaces, like this piece of furniture, you can use a roller to paint. It’s faster and gives a smooth finish.
Finishing
Applying the matte varnish is the last step of the work. This protects and seals the paint on the surface, and it also allows you to pass a damp cloth over the furniture to clean it. It is applied like paint with a brush or roller depending on the surface area of the furniture or your preference.
So! Your melamine furniture is now painted. All without being too complicated. If you want to add other effects to your furniture you can consult our blog article “ Painting melamine? It’s possible with Colorantic! »
