The stages

Preparation

1. First, thoroughly clean the furniture with Colorantic’s Varnish Cleaner and Remover. Spray on and leave for 30 minutes. Once the time has elapsed, be sure to rinse twice using a hot-water cloth.
2. Sand very lightly to scratch to improve paint adhesion to furniture. Don’t forget to dust well before proceeding.
3. Since the cradle has an oil finish, and for a long-lasting job, a coat of Colorantic oil primer was required. This allows the transition from the old oil finish to the new water-based paint.
4. For this stage of the preparation process, simply mix 1 part of chalk-based paint Cotton Ball with 1/2 part of clear glaze directly into your selected Colorantic paint. Mixing them together extends the paint’s drying time, allowing you to easily work the product to create beautiful faux finishes, vintage patinas, or subtle texture on the wood grain while keeping the vibrant colour integrity intact.

Now you’re ready to move on to the next step.

How to Apply Your Chalk-Based Paint and Glaze Blend:

Once your mixture is smooth and well-blended, apply it generously onto the surface of your furniture using your Colorantic oval brush 35mm, working in small sections at a time.

Thanks to the glaze, you’ll enjoy a longer working time to sculpt your desired effect before the chalk paint dries.

Once your first application is complete, allow the blend to dry thoroughly for about 2 hours, depending on the humidity of your workspace.

To achieve a professional-grade look with beautiful depth and solid coverage, we highly recommend applying a second coat.

The ultimate Colorantic insider secret?

Lightly sand the surface by hand between each coat using your two-grit sandblasting block. This gentle sanding step helps remove minor imperfections, smooths out any visible brush strokes, and maximizes the adhesion of the next layer, guaranteeing a flawless, velvety matte finish every single time.

The absolute best part about this technique is how much time it saves you: by mixing the Colorantic glaze directly with your chalk-based paint, you can completely skip the final step of applying a separate varnish or wax!
