Setting up a new workspace in the center of the ground floor and harmonizing it with the current decor was not an easy task. In vain, for several months I did research here and there to find inspiration. I wanted to incorporate a beautiful old look.
It was finally upon seeing a plank of spruce wood on sale at Rona that the ideas suddenly came to life. A few hours later I came home with a board, a new filing cabinet, and some nice handles. I was finally ready to start my new project.
This began with the installation of the spruce board and the upgrading of the filing cabinet.
Products Used
- Colorantic Cleaner and Varnish Remover
- Colorantic Oil-Based Primer (it is very important to use oil primer for melamine)
- Colorantic Chalk Paint: Night
- Colorantic Wax: Natural, Black Coal and Ancient Brown
- Colorantic Velvet Foam Roller
- Colorantic Brushes: 55mm, 16mm & round XL for painting
- Colorantic Two-Grain Sanding Block
- 100 and 120 grit sanding paper
- Colorantic Granular Hand and Brush Soap
- Blue paper towel for multiple uses
- T-shirt type rags
- A bottle of spray water
Preparing the Furniture
- First remove the drawers and handles.
- Then remove the castors from the file cabinet and replace them with small wooden legs, these were made at home.
- Spray the cleaner and varnish remover on all surfaces and leave to act for 30 minutes. Once the time has elapsed, it is important to rinse well twice using a cloth with hot water, in order to remove all residue.
- Apply the oil primer coat using the foam roller and respect the recommended drying time.
Painting
- So you are ready to apply the color Night using the bristle brush 55mm.
- Since chalk paint Colorantic dries quickly, I applied the second coat after 30 minutes. I have asparagus a little water on the brush to facilitate application.
- Once the paint is completely dry, you can wear it using the sandblasting block, different sanding papers and a damp cloth (t-shirt).
Protection
- Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours before applying the wax.
- The next day, using a 16mm round brush, apply Natural beeswax on the worn parts only and wipe it with a paper towel or a cloth (t-shirt)
- On one section at a time, using the XL brush, apply the Black Coal wax on all surfaces and spread it well using a paper towel or a cloth (t-shirt).
- Using a 16mm brush, accentuate worn areas by applying Antique Brown wax and rub very lightly using a paper towel or cloth (t-shirt).
- Rest assured, because if you are not completely satisfied with the result, it is always possible to correct the errors by reapplying the Natural Beeswax, this will allow you to erase and start again.
- The wax can take up to 7 days to dry, and even longer depending on the humidity level in the home.
Carrying out major renovations may also require giving a new function to an existing room.
This is what happened to us when we decided to expand our living room by using the adjoining multi-purpose room, in which there was an office space.
It’s pure joy to work in this new environment, and Colorantic allowed me once again to personalize it according to our needs.
