Like many of us, it is sometimes very difficult to get rid of our old furniture, because it reminds us of very beautiful family memories.
Some of this furniture remains in our possession for decades, stored in the attic, because over the years trends change and it no longer suits our current decors.
What has been wonderful in recent years is the repurposing of old furniture which is carried out with chalk paint. This trend is very current, because with a few brush strokes we can completely change the appearance of an old, outdated piece of furniture. With Colorantic products, we can revive an old piece of furniture endlessly, according to the current trend.
Marie shares with us the story of a chest that she has owned for 30 years and to which she gave a third life. A few years ago, his mother gave him a makeover with his favorite color of moment: a blue jeans.
For this new transformation, we will explain to you how Marie gave an antique appearance to this chest, while retaining part of the previous color.
The products used
- Sandblasting block Colorantic
- Oval brush #10 Colorantic
- Cleaner and Varnish remover Colorantic
- Colorantic Chalk Paint: cotton ball
- Matte varnish Colorantic.
The preparation
- First, do a very light sanding and dusting.
- Spray the Cleaner and Varnish Remover on all surfaces and leave it to act for 30 minutes. Once the time has elapsed, it is important to rinse thoroughly with hot water twice to remove all residue.
When the surfaces are completely dry, it is now possible to apply the paint.
The painting
- Apply a first coat of cotton ball paint.
- Since Colorantic chalk paint dries very quickly, you can apply a second coat after 30 minutes.
Give an antique look
In fact, to give an antique look to a piece of furniture, several methods are at your disposal. One of them is to simply sand the paint randomly in strategic places.
If you are not satisfied with the result, it is possible to add paint and work on the technique until you achieve the desired effect.
Remember to dust all surfaces well before continuing work.
Finishing
Once the work is finished, you can leave the paint like this, without protection. However, we recommend using a finishing product, which will extend the life of your job.
Colorantic offers you three finishing products:
- Wax
- Matte varnish (around 10% shine)
- Clear translucent window glaze (satin finish, approximately 30% gloss)
In this case, Marie opted for matte varnish and here are the steps carried out:
- Apply a first coat of varnish and let dry well.
- Once the first coat is completely dry, it is time to apply the second coat. You can do a very light sanding between the two layers using 600 grit sandpaper (or brown paper)
*** Do you know this technique of using brown paper for sandblasting??? She is also effective than using 600 grain paper.
Thanks to his patience and the excellent Colorantic products, youThis is the story of Mary’s chest which comes back to life in the current decor of her house.
