Here’s what Rosalie has to say….read on:Â
Good morning! Today I present to you my first project made with Colorantic products. It’s a paint that is entirely made in Quebec in addition to being ecological! So I will explain to you how I carried out this project.
Â
The piece of furniture I am showing you was already there when we bought our new house. I got it preserved to give it a second life.
The piece of furniture was originally stained and varnished, so the original color isn’t really on trend. I have a magnificent red wall in my living room and the furniture in shades of white, so I chose the Ballerina color for the transformation of this furniture. It’s really a color that suits me!
The products usedÂ
- Cleaner and varnish remover Colorantic
- Colorantic Oil Primer
- Colorantic Chalk Paint: Ballerina
- Synthetic bristle brush duo, purple oval #6 ColoranticÂ
- 2 Wax brushes 16 mm ColoranticÂ
- Wax, Natural Bee ColoranticÂ
- Grey Storm Wax
- Blue workshop paper towelÂ
- Colorantic two-sided sanding blockÂ
The preparation
Since the furniture had a very shiny dark oil varnish, at first I thought about stripping it completely. But after hearing about the miraculous Cleaner and Varnish remover from Colorantic I finally forgot the arduous step of stripping.Â
- I sprayed the Cleaner and Varnish remover all over the surface and left it on for 30 minutes. Once the time was up, I used a boiler of hot water and using a damp cloth, rinsed well twice. This step is very important to remove all residue. I was very satisfied, because the varnish was now matte.Â
- Afterwards, I lightly sanded the entire surface to help the paint adhere better. I dusted off very well before continuing.Â
- I was now ready to apply a coat of oil primer.
Once these steps are complete, it’s time to apply the color.Â
The paintingÂ
- When the primer is completely dry, about 2 hours, I can apply my color.Â
- I applied a first coat of Ballerina paint which I let dry for only 30 minutes since Colorantic chalk paint dries very quickly.Â
- Once the drying time was up, I applied the second coat of paint. Â
Both coats are now applied and the color is beautiful. I love it, I’m amazed, it’s so beautiful!Â
FinishingÂ
Now I’m ready to move on to the finishing stage and that’s it. Natural wax bee that I chose. It is used to protect the entire piece of furniture.Â
- One section at a time, apply the Natural wax bee using a 16 mm round brush. Once the wax is applied, buff using the paper towels. You can now continue like this until the piece of furniture is finished. It is important to change the cloth regularly, as it will become clogged with wax and polishing will be difficult to carry out.Â
- Once you have finished applying the Natural wax take a small amount of Grey Storm wax on the other 16 mm brush and apply very lightly to strategic places on the furniture following the grain of the wood. This will give it a lived-in effect, an old-fashioned style.Â
Wax is mainly used for occasional furniture.Â
