Use chalk paint!

Who doesn’t love farmhouse style? Lisa-Marie reveals an impressive transformation of an old TV cabinet using chalk paint. Would you like to know how she went about achieving this incredible result?  And there you go, there you go! This article will answer your questions.

Recently, we changed the doors of our century-old house. This type of house requires a continuous workload, and only needed the interior and exterior finishing following their installation.

As this requires quite a colossal amount of work, I therefore needed someone experienced in the field. What luck, my brother is an ace finisher! So why not offer to revamp his TV stand, in exchange for the hours of work done.

Installation of wooden planks

I attacked myself above TV stand to start. Since this step creates a lot of wood splinters and dust, I really didn’t want to take the risk of damaging fresh paint.

I started by covering the top of the furniture with old planks from an old sugar shack.  They were fixed with finishing nails and I ran the plane to level the boards as much as possible.

Sanding and finishing the boards

So, to make them look like the rest of the boards, I torched the places that had faded, to give them a rustic look again.

To make it as soft as possible, I sanded mechanically with fine paper, making sure the sides were safe for young children. Once to my liking, I passed air, using an air compressor, to remove any excess wood dust.

Next, I applied three coats of Saman water-based varnish to the boards, sanding lightly between each coat.

Preparing the chalk paint

After removing the built-in fireplace, the panels, the glass and the handles, I applied the cleaner and varnish remover to all the surfaces to be painted: front, sides and interior of the panels. After letting the cleaner act for 30 minutes, I rinsed very well twice using a cloth with hot water, in order to remove all the residue.

Once this step was completed, I applied the oil primer to ensure optimal adhesion of the chalk paint. This step is very important when the old finish is oil-based, this allows you to make the transition between the oil finish and the new water-based paint.

Applying chalk paint

Using a brush, I continued my work by applying two coats of Night color paint.

I also gave two coats of Metallic Jewel paint to the handles and the tiling of the doors.

Varnishing and assembly of furniture

Once the Nuit paint was completely dry, I applied a coat of Colorantic matte varnish to it.

After waiting 24 hours, my favorite part of furniture upgrading arrives: the installation of the fireplace, handles and doors!

What a wow effect, thanks to chalk paint

My brother’s TV stand is ready, and the barter of services will have been beneficial for each of our homes!

We love this transformation, don’t we? A perfect example of how we can spruce up a TV stand with chalk paint.
