How to add value to an old window

Window design

First, I removed the old, flaking paint using the stiff brush.

I dusted it very well using the air compressor to remove the dirt that had accumulated in every nook and cranny.

Once the masking tape was attached, I was ready to paint.

Then, in a small quantity of cotton ball paint, I added a little water. This lightened the paint (I always prefer to work with small quantities at a time, so as not to waste paint).

Using the #10 oval brush, I applied lightly and randomly to reveal the window’s natural grayish wood.

As soon as I’d finished applying the paint, I wiped it off in certain places with a damp cloth until the desired effect was achieved.

Once the paint was completely dry, I lightly sanded it with the two-grit sanding block to accentuate the wear in the right places.

Too much wear…no problem, you can correct it by adding paint.

Painting the shelf

My husband helped me with the shelf. Not wanting to weigh down the window, he opted for basswood, which is a very light wood and works well.

Using a variety of tools, he has succeeded in giving it the look of aged wood.

Before painting the board, I gently brushed the wood using a steel brush. I sprayed a little water in some places to bring out the wood grain, to accentuate the aged effect.

To achieve the window’s natural grayish color, I applied a coat of Tractor Dust over the entire board, using the #10 oval brush.

Then, before the paint dried completely, I sprayed on a little water and immediately applied the Cotton Ball color, making sure to mix the two colors well with my brush.

Once this was done, I used a damp cloth and wiped it down in a few places to bring out the grey.

The stencil

On the reverse side of the window, I secured the stencil with masking tape and sprayed the black spray paint at a distance of about 12 inches, taking care to spray lightly to avoid drips.

Protection

Using the XL round wax brush, I applied the natural beeswax to all surfaces, one section at a time, then polished it off using a cloth (t-shirt).

Always in search of originality, we opted for planter hooks to support the shelf.

I’m absolutely delighted with my man’s brilliant idea. It’s a wonderful focal point I’ve been dreaming of for a wow effect in my kitchen.

I love decorating it according to the season, and its look is always appreciated by our guests.
