Even before I started renovating the kitchen, my head was full of decorating ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n On this space above the island I dreamed of having shelves. Loving originality as well as recovery, I had planned to give a makeover to the old hutch of our china cabinet, but the installation of a retractable door weakened this wall, so it was no longer possible to install the heavy hutch. <\/span><\/p>\n For several months I’ve been searching for the original element that would give this rather sober and uncluttered short story a nice touch.<\/span><\/p>\n While rummaging through our treasure chest, my husband had the brilliant idea of salvaging an old window from our century-old house and adding a shelf.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.3″ _module_preset=”default” text_font_size=”16px” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=”Project completed” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”13px||6px|||” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Explications du processus” _builder_version=”4.27.3″ _module_preset=”default” text_font_size=”16px” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n First, I removed the old, flaking paint using the stiff brush.<\/span><\/p>\n I dusted it very well using the air compressor to remove the dirt that had accumulated in every nook and cranny.<\/span><\/p>\n Once the masking tape was attached, I was ready to paint.<\/span><\/p>\n Then, in a small quantity of cotton ball<\/a> paint, I added a little water. This lightened the paint (I always prefer to work with small quantities at a time, so as not to waste paint). <\/span><\/p>\n Using the #10 oval brush<\/a>, I applied lightly and randomly to reveal the window’s natural grayish wood.<\/span><\/p>\n As soon as I’d finished applying the paint, I wiped it off in certain places with a damp cloth until the desired effect was achieved.<\/span><\/p>\n Once the paint was completely dry, I lightly sanded it with the two-grit sanding block to accentuate the wear in the right places.<\/span><\/p>\n Too much wear…no problem, you can correct it by adding paint.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Explications du processus” _builder_version=”4.27.3″ _module_preset=”default” text_font_size=”16px” min_height=”157px” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n My husband helped me with the shelf. Not wanting to weigh down the window, he opted for basswood, which is a very light wood and works well. <\/span><\/p>\n Using a variety of tools, he has succeeded in giving it the look of aged wood.<\/span><\/p>\n Before painting the board, I gently brushed the wood using a steel brush. I sprayed a little water in some places to bring out the wood grain, to accentuate the aged effect. <\/span><\/p>\n To achieve the window’s natural grayish color, I applied a coat of Tractor Dust<\/a> over the entire board, using the #10 oval brush<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n Then, before the paint dried completely, I sprayed on a little water and immediately applied the Cotton Ball<\/a> color, making sure to mix the two colors well with my brush.<\/span><\/p>\n Once this was done, I used a damp cloth and wiped it down in a few places to bring out the grey.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Explications du processus” _builder_version=”4.27.3″ _module_preset=”default” text_font_size=”16px” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n On the reverse side of the window, I secured the stencil with masking tape and sprayed the black spray paint at a distance of about 12 inches, taking care to spray lightly to avoid drips.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Explications du processus” _builder_version=”4.27.3″ _module_preset=”default” text_font_size=”16px” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Using the XL round wax brush, I applied the natural beeswax<\/a> to all surfaces, one section at a time, then polished it off using a cloth (t-shirt).<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery gallery_ids=”38320,38324,38322,38326″ fullwidth=”on” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” max_width=”45%” module_alignment=”center” custom_margin=”28px|||522px||” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_gallery][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=”Conclusion” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”||4px|||” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Texte” _builder_version=”4.27.3″ _module_preset=”default” text_font_size=”16px” custom_padding=”||||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Always in search of originality, we opted for planter hooks to support the shelf. <\/span><\/p>\n I’m absolutely delighted with my man’s brilliant idea.
