Transforming computer cabinet
One morning, while looking on Marketplace, I came across this pretty cabinet that was to be donated. So I jumped at the chance and went to get it. Upon inspecting it I realized that it was part of a computer cabinet that had been detached. It’s okay, I’ll fix everything and give it new life!
To begin, I dismantled everything I could on the cabinet. The door, the handle, the hinges, the back and the shelves. I then repaired the holes with my wood filler and let it dry for 24 hours. Once dry, I proceed to lightly sand the surface and I cleaned everything with the Cleaner and Varnish Remover. I rinsed twice with water and let it dry. After, I applied the oil primer all over the furniture. I let it dry for 24 hours.
Then I had leftover wallpaper that I liked a lot and I thought it would look nice on the back of the cabinet. So I applied it to the arborite board that serves as a background. I also painted the legs with Metallic Jewel paint.
Application of the colour and old-fashioned effect
The next day, I applied the Volcano colour all over the furniture. I used a roller to make it easier to apply and then with my 35mm brush, I brushed it up and down to make it look better. I waited about 1 hour for everything to dry. Afterwards, I applied a second coat.
For the glaze, I used a European-style brush to leave a wood finish. By dipping only the tip of the brush in the glaze, we brush by pressing more or less, from top to bottom, as much as possible in a stroke or two. We retouch until we achieve the desired result.
For the details on the door, I applied 2 coats of Metallic Jewel with my artist brush and let it dry. Once everything is dry (about 2 hours), I applied a small layer of Natural Beeswax, to protect the surface. And there you have it, you just have to reassemble your furniture and install it in the desired location.
In furniture upgrading, several options are possible: a cabinet for the bathroom, a bookcase. Why not a small bar or even a pretty buffet. Let your imagination run wild according to your needs.
We must not stop at what we are told. Any piece of furniture can have another purpose!
