Dining room makeover

After the construction of my new house, I found that my dining room furniture looked rather old-fashioned with its dark wood. So I decided to give it a second wind using products from a Quebec company, Colorantic.

In this blog, you’ll find the different products used, as well as the steps that led to the rejuvenation of this dining room furniture.

Here’s how it’s done

Preparation

  1. I sprayed the nail polish cleaner and remover on all surfaces and left it on for 30 minutes. Once the time was up, I took care to rinse well twice using a hot water cloth.
  2. After drying, I sanded very lightly. I dusted very well before continuing.

The paint

  1. I applied a first coat of paint, Toasted Marshmallow, to the table base and the chair legs and backs.
  2. Since Colorantic paint dries quickly, after 30 minutes I was ready to apply the second coat of paint.
  3. For the table top and chair seats, I applied three coats of the color Nuit, always making sure to let it dry thoroughly between coats.

For style

  1. I mixed three parts translucent window glaze and one part Nuit color.
  2. I applied this mixture to the edges of the chair rungs, to the base of the table, as well as around the edge of the table.
  3. Two or three minutes later, I wiped lightly using a dry cotton cloth. Using a small brush, I made a few touch-ups here and there. These steps gave me a slightly old-fashioned style.

The finish

  1. Using the 38 mm brush, I applied a first coat of matte varnish.
  2. Once dry, I sanded lightly before applying the second coat of varnish.
  3. For the tabletop, I applied three coats of varnish.

Finally, with a lot of care, I managed to give my dining room furniture a second life and I love the result.

In our society of over-consumption, it’s important to take a stand and make purchasing decisions. By recycling your furniture, you help reduce the waste of natural resources. Acquiring a piece of vintage furniture with added value, or upgrading your own furniture, are actions that contribute to sustainable development.

In conclusion, these are just a few of the arguments that could help you make an eco-responsible purchase. After all, once refurbished, your furniture will retain its history as well as being up to date.

Now you know how to breathe new life into your furniture with Colorantic’s top-of-the-range products. By choosing Colorantic, you’re supporting a Quebec company!
