For her first transformation, she chose to upgrade a bookcase made from KALLAX modules from Ikéa. She wants to furnish her daughter’s bedroom. Initially, it was a very ordinary white library which transformed into a beautiful large creative surface for a pre-teen full of projects.
A transformation of Ikea furniture is simple and interesting to carry out. So why throw away your old furniture if you can give it a second life? With imagination and the right products, anything is possible.
Preparing for the boxes
Clean thoroughly using the Cleaner and Varnish Remover from Colorantic and using a cloth with hot water, rinse well twice to remove all traces of cleaner which could prevent the paint from adhering well.
- Since Colorantic paint covers so well, Sandra decided not to apply an oil primer.
- For durable work, at Colorantic we strongly suggest applying a coat of our company’s oil primer.
Painting the fabric baskets
Spray the fabric with water and apply two coats of paint. Respect the drying time between coats.
- When applying the paint you will see imperfections on the fabric, but do not worry because these will fade away during drying.
Finishing
In this case, I opted for the Natural beeswax for the protection of my furniture.
- In small sections at a time, apply the wax and buff it well using the blue paper towels. It is important to change paper towels for each section, as it will become clogged with wax and polishing will become very difficult.
Once the work was finished, I decided to embellish the fabric baskets to give them a touch of femininity, I then added some trimmings that I got from an item of clothing that I no longer wore.
I changed the handles for wooden handles which I painted Cotton Ball white and to which I added a small stencil print.
My teenager is very proud of her new, very practical piece of furniture that adorns her new teenage-looking bedroom.
