Even if it is not the most pleasant part of the project, it is essential to properly prepare your furniture and your work environment before starting.
Surface Preparation
- Clean the furniture using Colorantic Cleaner and Varnish Remover. Spray all surfaces and leave to act for approximately 10 minutes. Once the time is up, make sure to rinse very well with hot water twice to remove all residue.
- Sand lightly to improve paint adhesion.
- Depending on the condition of your furniture, you may, like me, need to repair and/or fill a few holes.
- To do this, I used Lesage wood filler.
Applying the Primer
Prime the furniture with Colorantic oil primer. Alternate with the brush and roller for application and allow to dry well before continuing work.
Give a Wood Effect Before Painting
- If you want a wood effect under the paint, you must apply a stain. For this piece of furniture, I used the Saman Walnut coluor.
- Allow 24-48 hours for drying time.
Time to Apply Colour
- I used a mixture of Kiwi and Mermaid (half and half for each colour).
- Apply a coat with a roller to large areas so that the stain appears in certain areas. The idea is not to completely cover the surface.
- Using dry and damp cloths, you accentuate the old effect by wiping in places. It is important to do one section at a time, as Colorantic paint dries very quickly.
Finishing
For optimal protection, apply matte varnish. Two coats will be needed.
You now have a unique melamine piece of furniture that will turn heads.
