What is Image Transfer?

Image transfer is a technique that allows you to integrate a photo or image into your creation to give it the effect of being an integral part of your work. Image transfer can be done on various surfaces such as wood, glass, metal and more.

This technique allows you to personalize a decorative object or even a piece of furniture in your home. Image transfer is an excellent alternative. Here are the steps that Colorantic suggests for you to achieve an image transfer on a wooden surface without any unpleasant surprises.

Do you want to use image transfer on your project?

First of all, image transfer is very simple! After reading this article, you will be able to experiment with it yourself.

Thanks to our numerous Colorantic product retailers, carrying out your projects has never been easier. Moreover, our range of products is not only comprehensive but also very easy to use for all your craft projects.

Here is the list of products to use for your project:

  • Colorantic Image Transfer Gel

  • Foam brush or a flat brush from Colorantic

  • An ultra-thin paper sheet or tracing paper

The steps

  • It is important to use a laser printer and not an inkjet printer.

  • Apply the transfer gel to your surface.

  • Apply the image onto the gel.

  • Wipe off excess gel by smoothing out air bubbles and wrinkles.

  • Let it sit for 24 hours.

  • Use a sponge soaked in hot water to wet the paper.

  • Once the paper is thoroughly wet, you can remove it by gently rubbing.

  • Allow to dry thoroughly.

  • Finish by using a Colorantic finishing product to protect your artwork (wax, varnish, or glaze).

Ideas of Projects to Create

Don’t hesitate to let your imagination wander; whatever the chosen object, you can decorate it with image transfer. All objects can be beautified! Why not use a simple metal pot for a delicious version? Simply choose your favorite food image for this project.

Multiple Image Transfers

If you enjoy the technique of image transfers, you will surely fall in love with layered image transfers. To fully enjoy this technique, you must be patient and accept having perfectly imperfect transfers. It’s not an exact science.

To achieve transparency and depth effects in your artwork, I strongly recommend using black and white images, as colour images do not give as beautiful a transparency effect

Give yourself time to explore and conduct tests on samples before embarking on large artistic projects.
